Aston Martin’s CEO Adrian Hallmark has laid out future plans for the automaker, stating that they’re unveiling a new EV by 2030 and multiple hybrids for 2035. Until then though, they’re persistent on building V12’s until the large displacement engine meets its demise, along with the promise of a manual transmission on their non-limited models.

Hallmark told Drive magazine that the constant supply of V12’s will halt during 2028, with it completely dying in 2030. The engineers from the British automaker will continue to make tweaks to the engine to squeeze as much power as possible while passing emission regulations, but there’s little they can do to save it from its fate.

However, the CEO stated that if they were to do low volume sales of the V12, they could potentially apply for derogation on low volume vehicles, allowing them to keep it alive."There are two degrees of freedom. [In the] legislation, we can often get derogation for low volumes. So if we were building 100,000 12-cylinders a year, it is 2028.”, he said.

Hallmark also said that we’re witnessing the “final push” for the large displacement engine, with automakers going above and beyond to keep the engine alive just for a few more years.

The V12 is a dying breed amongst newer generation vehicles, there’s only a handful of machines left with the monstrous heart, such as Aston’s Vanquish, Ferrari’s Purosangue and 12Cilindri, Pagani’s Utopia and Lamborghini’s Revuelto, making it extremely desirable for many enthusiasts.

The new Vanquish is a perfect example as according to Hallmark, people “absolutely” gravitate towards the machine in all its 5.2 liter twin-turbo V12 glory.

Now here’s a question, how can you make a V12 even more emotionally engaging? Hallmark says, “We need a manual."

The manual transmission in particular is the one found in Valour and Valiant, which were both limited edition models. If the 911 GT3 and S/T are anything to go by, it’s evidently clear that there’s demand for high-performance DIY machines. The CEO adds that he wants more trim packages and mechanical differences, such as the manual gearbox, though it will take more time to bring into the market.

He also hinted that they may be “bringing back an existing race car for the road”, though some markets will receive the variants.

Aston Martin will share its financial results for 2024 soon, where Hallmark will go into detail about the automaker’s plans.

“My mission is to be the first CEO in 112 years to make it sustainably profitable,” he says.
