BYD has unveiled both their new Han L sedan and Tang L SUV, where it receives the brand’s latest technology and signature design.

Firstly, let's talk about design. According to CarNewsChina, BYD’s chief designer Wolfgang Egger stated these aren’t average cars, but in fact ‘Chinese Culture Carriers’, with their commitment to Dynasty design. The chrome bar that goes over the front end of both models is called the Dragon’s Mustache. Taillights for the Han L were inspired by phoenix wings whereas the Tang L’s was inspired by Chinese weaving bamboo techniques. Both models will feature a porcelain-like paint along with D-pillars shaped like brush strokes from calligraphy.

The Han L has gained some length and width, its dimensions are now  5050/1960/1505 mm with a wheelbase of 2970 mm. For context, the new sedan is now 10mm longer, 50mm wider and 10mm higher than its predecessor, the BYD Han.

The 7-seater Tang L is even heftier at 5040/1996/1760 mm with a wheelbase of 2950 mm. The new dimensions are now 170mm longer, 46mm wider and 35mm taller than the previous BYD Tang.

Both models will receive a battery electric option with up to two motors making 1,102PS, along with a plug-in hybrid petrol option that comes in a 1.5 liter engine (156PS) paired with an electric motor (272PS).

For the all-electric Han L and Tang L, there are two powertrain options available to buyers, the first being a single motor, rear-wheel drive setup that makes 680PS, and the second being a dual-motor AWD setup with each one sitting at the front (313PS) and rear (789PS) for a combined 1,102 PS, allowing the Han L to run a 0-100km/h time of just 2.7 seconds.

In terms of charging, CarNewsChina says that the Han L will feature a 945V architecture for super-fast-charging, allowing the sedan to juice up from 16% to 100% in 24 minutes. For 16% to 80%, it only takes 10 minutes where the full charge takes another 14 minutes.  This also works in extremely cold weather, up until -30°C. The Han L will also feature dual-gun charging, where buyers can plug in two charging ports at the same time; it's unknown if the aforementioned charging speeds are from this feature though.

Sitting inside the cabin, the BYD Han L and Tang L seem to feature leather upholstery, a large infotainment display and digital instrument cluster. The SUV gets an extra sun/moonroof, slight differences to the door cards and has a seating layout of 2-3-2.

Pricing for both models haven’t been disclosed, but BYD has teased it to be in the ballpark of 300,000 Yuan (RM184,518).
