Total lockdown measurements have been announced on Sunday, 30 May 2021, by Senior Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakobon. The reinstated restrictions aim to curb the spread of Covid-19 from 1 to 14 June 2021.
Health services, transport, water and energy utilities, including food and beverage operators, are among the list of essential services allowed to open. Other businesses permitted to operate are banks, car workshops, telecommunications and media (news).
The national security council (MKN) has also implemented strict travel restrictions. Only two people per household will be allowed to go out within 10km radius for essentials from Tuesday. The two people per car rule will also apply to taxis or e-hailing operators; one driver will be allowed to serve one passenger seated in the rear.
However, three people can travel together in the same vehicle to seek emergency medical services, including the person needing immediate medical attention.
If the two weeks of total lockdown succeeds in reducing the number of daily cases, the government will implement phase two of the lockdown for four weeks. More economic sectors will open up again safely with limitations to gathering sizes and strict social distancing measurements.
