In a strong statement that’s bound to spark attention, Transport Minister Anthony Loke has declared that the Road Transport Department (JPJ) will not cower to intimidation from 'tontos' – rogue informants often hired by errant heavy vehicle operators to alert them of enforcement presence. This comes amidst renewed efforts to clamp down on road rule violations across Malaysia.

JPJ officers have reportedly faced threats while conducting traffic camera operations and other roadside inspections. These ‘tonto’ groups aim to sabotage enforcement, particularly during large-scale crackdowns involving overloaded lorries and unsafe commercial vehicles.

“We will not be shaken by these threats,” Loke stated. “Our officers are committed to public safety, and JPJ will continue strict enforcement without fear or favour.”

Keeping Roads Safe – One Camera at a Time

The government’s unwavering stance sends a clear message to all road users: break the rules, and you will face the law. Especially with Malaysia’s fluctuating petrol prices and increased traffic during festive seasons, ensuring safety has never been more crucial.

While enforcement intensifies, it’s also a good reminder to keep your vehicle roadworthy — from regular servicing to ensuring your insurance kereta is up to date.
