RM2.5m in Foreign Vehicle Fines: Ops Tunggak Update
Since the launch of Operasi Saman Tertunggak Warganegara Asing (Ops Tunggak) in September, a total of RM2.5 million has been collected in fines from foreign drivers, with a significant number of offenders being Thai nationals. The Ops Tunggak operation targets outstanding traffic summonses issued to foreign drivers, particularly those in states bordering Thailand, such as Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan, and Perak.
According to Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan, Senior Director of Enforcement at the Road Transport Department (JPJ), most of the fines were paid in these regions, especially by van drivers transporting workers between Thailand and Malaysia. The highest single fine paid was RM65,000 by a Thai van driver who had multiple outstanding summonses. Once the fines were settled, the van was released.
In addition to Ops Tunggak, JPJ has collected a significant RM35 million through its special compound offer, which allows individuals to settle fines at a flat rate of RM150. However, there are still around two million unsettled summonses, and JPJ is urging the public to make payments before the June 30 deadline.
