All LRT Stations in Malaysia Getting Major Safety Upgrade
In a significant move to improve passenger safety, Prasarana Malaysia Berhad will install platform screen doors (PSDs) and smart CCTV systems across all LRT stations in Malaysia. This decision follows recent incidents, including a tragic event at the Titiwangsa LRT station involving a visually impaired passenger.
Platform Screen Doors to Prevent Accidents
According to Malay Mail, Transport Minister Anthony Loke stated that the installation of PSDs is a long-term plan to prevent accidents and unauthorized access to tracks. These doors will act as a barrier between passengers and moving trains, ensuring a safer commuting experience.
Smart CCTV for Enhanced Security
According to The Star, Prasarana will also upgrade CCTV surveillance to smart AI-powered cameras that can detect unusual activity and enable quicker response times in case of emergencies. This advanced system aims to enhance security and improve overall efficiency in public transport management.
Government’s Commitment to Inclusivity
The Transport Ministry is also working on making public transport more inclusive. Passengers with disabilities (PwDs) are encouraged to seek assistance from Prasarana staff or auxiliary police stationed at LRT platforms to ensure their safety.
