At Perodua's recent press dinner, President and CEO Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad shared insights into the company's forthcoming ventures while also revealing new details on their products.

The CEO stated that the the national automaker's first ever EV will feature a proposed battery leasing scheme, a first in the local market. This means that owners of the vehicle don't own the battery as it's leased from Perodua. This reasoning behind the leasing scheme was to keep the EV's purchase price around RM80,000, making it more affordable for consumers. In addition, it also addresses concerns about the high upfront costs of EVs and the potential depreciation associated with battery degradation.

The EV is expected to be powered by a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery sourced from CATL, one of the world's leading battery manufacturers. As for range, it can go up to 400 km on a single charge. Other than that, details will have to wait until later this year as Perodua has teased that the production version of the eMO-II is slated for a late 2025 debut.

In addition to its EV initiatives, Perodua is set to launch a new compact SUV, internally codenamed D66B. This model is based on the Toyota Yaris Cross and is expected to fill the gap between the Ativa and the Aruz in the national automakers lineup. The D66B is anticipated to feature both petrol and hybrid powertrain options. The launch is expected to occur ahead of the eMO-II, indiciating that Perodua is planning for two new models in a single year!

Addressing the future of its popular compact sedan, the Bezza, Datuk Seri Zainal hinted at a successor model expected to debut around 2027 or 2028. Launched in 2016, the Bezza has been a significant contributor to Perodua's sales, and the company is keen on building upon its success with a new iteration that will satiate customers needs for new features and outlook.

Perodua is also focusing on refreshing its current lineup. The Ativa crossover and the third-generation Myvi hatchback are due for updates. Given that the Myvi received a significant upgrade in 2022, it's likely that the Ativa will be the first to see a facelift. Expected enhancements include subtle design tweaks and feature upgrades to keep the models competitive in the market.
