Three New Vehicle Inspection Companies Announced By Transport Ministry
As promised from yesterday, the government has appointed 3 new inspection service companies to conduct mandatory vehicle inspections (PPKM) alongside Pustakom, says Transport minister Anthony Loke.
Previously, Pustakom was the sole vehicle inspection company that was allowed to perform PKMM. Since their concession ended on August 31 last year, the government has been opening applications for new companies to add to the roster. Pustakom has not been stripped of its authority to perform PPKM, and all branches will continue to be operational.
The three new companies are as follows. Wawasan Bintang Sdn Bhd, which is to operate in Port Klang, Gua Musang, and Mersing; Pakatan Petroleum Sdn Bhd, where they’ll set up shop in Rawang and Termeloh; and Beriman Gold Sdn Bhd, as they'll take Kuching and Serian in Sarawak.
“This appointment aligns with the decision of the Cabinet meeting on March 17, 2023, which approved the opening of mandatory motor vehicle inspection services under the Road Transport Act 198 to other qualified companies.
“As previously announced, the ministry and the Road Transport Department (JPJ) developed and established the requirements, regulations, and procedures for selecting qualified companies,” Loke stated.
The three new companies will be given 2 years to prepare the necessary inspection centers, machinery and equipment, along with other approval documentations. JPJ will also be monitoring the progress of the companies before handing them their PPKM appointment letters.
“During this period, MOT, through JPJ, will conduct continuous monitoring to ensure compliance with all PPKM operational standards,” the minister says.
Loke added the government will be reopening applications to further expand PPKM services during March 1 to June 30 later this year.
He encouraged unsuccessful applicants from the previous round and other interested parties to apply, as he believes that increased competition leads to better services and road safety.
