7 Roads Around Batu Caves To Be Closed During Thaipusam

Thaipusam, one of Malaysia’s grandest Hindu festivals, is set to bring thousands of devotees and visitors to Batu Caves. With the celebration in full swing, major road closures will take effect in stages starting midnight this Sunday (Feb 11) until Feb 14. If you're planning to drive, brace yourself for massive congestion, or better yet, rethink your travel plans.

To curb the expected traffic congestion, Selangor Police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan stated that several roads needed to be closed. 

Here’s the breakdown of roads affected: 

1. Traffic lights at Kampung Melayu Batu Caves

2. Exit ramp from MRR2 to Batu Caves Temple

3. Jalan Perusahaan leading to Batu Caves Temple

4. MRR2 exit ramp from Sri Gombak to Jalan Perusahaan

5. Jalan Seri Batu Caves (SBC) 8 / Jalan Batu Caves Lama intersection

6. Traffic lights at Sri Batu Caves (SBC)

7. Batu Caves Bypass leading to the temple's main entrance.

1,306 police officers will be stationed to redirect motorists, but expect delays. Public transport (especially KTM) will be your best bet if you’re heading to Batu Caves. 

Chief Hussein also urged motorists to park in designated areas and lock their cars to prevent theft.

Drones are prohibited to fly within the area. For those who want to fly their drones, they must receive permission from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia.
