New Vehicle Inspection Companies To be Announced Tomorrow

According to New Strait Times, the transport ministry has announced that the new vehicle inspection companies will be announced tomorrow.

During March last year, the government announced that they’re receiving applications from other qualified vehicle inspection providers when Pustakom’s concession ended on August 31st, 2024, meaning that the company is no longer the only one to provide said services.

“The ministry obtained Cabinet approval last year to terminate Puspakom’s concession policy or monopoly. At present, Puspakom no longer holds a concession. Instead, it has been granted only a licence to operate. 

“We have carried out evaluations, and tomorrow, I will be announcing several new companies that have been approved to establish vehicle inspection centres. I will make this announcement at the ministry,” said transport minister Anthony Loke.

The transport minister further elaborated on the monopolization from Pustakom, stating that “In general, we believe that when an industry operates under a monopoly, service quality can sometimes be affected. This is why we encourage competition," 

Loke has also expressed optimism about opening of the market for increased competition, believing that it will provide better service and integrity in the long run.
