Over the course of 5 days, PDRM has issued over 104,235 summons nationwide during Chinese New Year. While it does sound like a lot, the numbers are actually 43% lower compared to last year’s total of 183,033 cases.

According to JSPT Bukit Aman director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, the most common offenses included speeding, with it racking a total of 44,000 summons. Others were overtaking using the emergency lane, running across red lights, distracted driving from mobile devices.

Basri has also said that JSPT will look into the reasoning behind the decline in summons, whether it’s the fact that road users are finally following the rules, or that their safety campaigns are just that effective.

Either way, stay safe this Chinese New Year. Follow the rules and just take a chill pill if you’re stuck on your way back.
