All Federal Roads Speed Limit Reduced To 80km/h From Jan 28 To Feb 2
In preparation for the 2025 Chinese New Year, the government has announced the implementation of "Ops Bersepadu," in collaboration with the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Road Transport Department (JPJ), Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS), and the Highway Authority (LLM). The operation, which will run from January 28 to February 2, 2025, aims to ensure smooth traffic flow and enhance road safety during the festive season.
A key focal point of the operation is the reduction of the speed limit on all federal roads from 90 km/h to 80 km/h, reducing the risk of road accidents and improve safety for travelers during one of the busiest travel periods of the year. The authorities will also temporarily halt non-critical road construction and maintenance work to avoid disrupting traffic flow, while emergency work will be carefully planned to minimize traffic congestion.
In addition to the operation, heavy vehicles will be subject to a four-day road ban on January 27-28 and February 1-2 to reduce congestion during peak hours.
The Works Ministry has also reminded road users to ensure their vehicles are in good condition and to make sure their toll payment cards, such as Touch 'n Go and RFID, are topped up to avoid delays. In addition, they're also hoping that the reduction in speed limits and other safety initiatives will provide motorists with a smooth and safer drive.
