BYD Malaysia has announced that the the highly-anticipated Denza D9 is now open for bookings. This is following the initial announcement made last November, with several newly-appointed BYD dealers confirming the luxury MPV's arrival. While official pricing hasn't been disclosed, there's hints from our neighbouring countries where the Denza D9 may cost.

In Thailand, the Denza D9 launched at a promotional price starting from THB1,999,900, approximately RM263,000. In Malaysia, its main rival, the Zeekr 009, commands a starting price of RM349,800. This pricing suggests that the Denza D9 could give the Zeekr a run for it's money, especially given the premium features and specifications it brings to the table.

Buyers can choose between front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) options. The FWD version is powered by a single motor delivering 313 hp (230 kW) and 360 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in 9.5 seconds. The AWD variant steps up the performance with an additional motor on the rear axle, producing a combined output of 374 hp (275 kW) and 470 Nm, allowing the MPV to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds.

Both versions feature the same 103 kWh Blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. The battery provides a WLTP-rated range of 520 km for the FWD model and 480 km for the AWD. Charging is flexible and convenient, with support for an 11 kW AC charger and DC fast charging at speeds of up to 166 kW.

Inside, the cabin is filled with plenty of luxurious elements and features, highlighted by the captain seats in the second row that are upholstered in embroidered Nappa leather. These seats come with power adjustment, lumbar support, seat ventilation, and massage functions. Speaking of the seats, there's also a mini-fridge wedged in between the front seats for drink parties.

Additionally, the real wood trims adorning the dashboard and door panels look incredibly elegant and posh. There's a panoramic glass roof that goes across the roof of the MPV, and there's three 50-watt wireless charging pads located in the first and second rows. Denza haven't skimped out on entertainment too, with a 14-speaker Dynaudio setup and a 15.6 inch floating infotainment screen.

In terms of safety and convenience, there's a suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) included, such as autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with lane centring assist, front and rear cross-traffic alerts with automatic braking, and driver attention monitoring.

As we await the official launch in the first quarter of 2025, more details about the Denza D9’s pricing and specifications for Malaysia will emerge. Will buyers favor the increasingly famous Zeekr 009, or will BYD's trump card sway the market in their favor? We'll just have to see from the booking numbers in the coming weeks.
