Cars That Match Your Chinese Zodiac Sign in 2025
It’s that time of the year again, where Chinese households turn a bright red and malls go from blasting Mariah Carey to every single Chinese New Year song known to man. And with every new year, most Chinese Malaysians read into their zodiac signs to guide them through the year, from health to careers and even relationships. So we at Motorist have compiled a list of cars for all the zodiac signs for the year of the snake. From the choice of colour and model, these cars will best suit you according to the horoscopes this year.
Rat- Toyota Vios
People who were born in the year of the Rat are usually resourceful, smart and good at saving money. Fengshui masters predict that this year will be a lucky year for Rats, but it’s important to stay humble despite it, which is why a Toyota Vios is a perfect buy. It’s a Toyota so it’s indestructible, parts are quite cheap and it’s compact. It also has decent power with 106PS and 138Nm of torque for the newer model and 107PS and 140Nm for the previous generation, making this an incredibly smart buy.
Lucky colours for the Rats this year are blue, gold and green, so we recommend you get the ones that are painted in Nebula Metallic Blue if you’re in the market. Wrapping your car in gold and green could also work, but a green Vios would be a headturner for the wrong reasons. If you’re looking to buy a used Vios, this blue one is up for sale right now!
Ox- Subaru Forester
Just like a real Ox, people born in this year are known for their strength, resilience and diligence, leading us to believe that a Subaru Forester would do the trick. The Forester has a tall and muscular looking stance, similar to that of an Ox. The 4-cylinder boxer engine puts out 156PS and 196Nm of torque that’s sent to all wheels through Subaru’s signature AWD system.
The main reason why we chose it is due to the concern of health complications from sedentary working conditions. Fengshui masters say it’s a good year but suggest to stay away from stress and do more workout this year. As the Forester is known for its emphasis on the outdoors, it encourages a healthy lifestyle with exercise and good eating habits. Whether you want to fit a bike at the boot or just traversing to rural areas for a camping trip, this car can do it all.
Ox’s should go for a white Forester, as the other lucky colours are yellow and green. However, feel free to go for the other two colours as well if you’re feeling adventurous this year.
Tiger- Mazda 3
Tigers are known for their bravery, confidence and unpredictability. They have a tendency to be the center of attention and are generally great leaders. While a Camry would’ve been a sound choice, Tigers like to express themselves boldly and want to stand out from the crowd, this is where the Mazda 3 comes in.
The Mazda 3 is one of the more athletic cars in its segment, with it being able to carve some serious corners despite its elegant appearance. Its 2.0 liter Skyactiv-G engine pumps out 162PS and 214Nm of torque to the front wheels, paired with a 6-speed automatic. This car is relatively uncommon on the roads even though it’s known by name, making it great for the individualistic Tiger. Another reason for this choice is that Tigers are strongly suggested to make smart financial decisions this year. The Mazda 3 is that perfect middle ground for something that’s more niche yet still a good buy with its reliability and good depreciation on the used market.
If you’re looking to buy one, white is the way to go for the colour, unless you want a purple, yellow or green wrap which again, is perfectly in-line with a Tiger’s personality.
Rabbit- Honda City Hatchback
Elegance and swiftness is what Rabbits are known for, and the Honda City Hatchback coincidentally checks all those boxes. There won't be much going on for the Rabbits this year but fengshui masters suggest that they should push for growth and being laid-back won’t improve their finances.
With that, the City Hatch is actually a good option for Rabbits as it’s just a low maintenance vehicle, allowing the Rabbits to keep their focus on the important things in life. Also, the drive is just characteristic of a rabbit, with it being light, nimble and chuckable around the city. Just put some rabbit ears on the car and you’re good to go. It doesn’t disappoint in power as well, with the RS hybrid putting out 109PS and 253Nm of torque, whereas the non-hybrids pump out 121PS and 145Nm of torque.
The lucky colour we’d recommend would be red, though having a City Hatch wrapped in light yellow or blue would be kind of cool.
Dragon- Lexus LC500
People born in the year of the Dragon are often referred to as charismatic, wealthy and smart. They’re always in pursuit of perfection and want to break traditional norms, in which a Lexus LC500 sounds right up their alley.
Unlike the typical Aston Martins and Bentleys, the Lexus LC500 is one of the more underrated GT (Grand Touring) cars on the market. It has a fire-breathing naturally aspirated 5.0 liter V8, putting out 477PS and 540Nm of torque to the rear wheels, it’s accompanied with a symphonic exhaust note that sounds throaty yet refined. The gorgeous design of the luxury coupe makes a commanding presence on the road, which is most befitting of a Dragon.
Fengshui masters say that Dragons will generally have a smooth sail this year, with finances doing well and no health issues, leading us to think that the LC500 is the perfect option for them, as it looks sophisticated while still being able to produce an intimidating roar on the road.
If you can afford one of these, we strongly recommend the lucky colour of brown/bronze as it just looks so sexy compared to cream and yellow. However, if you want to stand out even more, the cream and yellow are excellent options too, so do as you wish!
Snake- Perodua Ativa
The main protagonist of this year is here! The people born in the year of the Snake are usually smart and introverted, they’re great thinkers and communicators but they’re incredibly materialistic. This is probably why fengshui masters say that this year will be financially tough for Snakes, despite it being their year. So after some research, we think that the Perodua Ativa is the best option for them.
The Perodua Ativa is a compact 5-seater SUV that’s powered by a turbocharged 1.0 liter 3-cylinder that makes 98PS and 140Nm of torque. It’s comfortable to drive in and the cabin is nicely soundproofed, meaning that Snakes can either indulge with their thoughts in a tranquil environment, or have a lovely conversation with their passengers without pesky road noise. The best part? The Ativa is really light on the wallet with it being affordable and reasonably reliable.
The lucky colours are blue, red and black this year, but all of those colours look pretty good on the car, so fret not about choosing the right one!
Horse- Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS
People of the Horse year are usually born active and extremely energetic. They love to be in crowds, yearn for new exciting experiences and often take risks. The fengshui masters predict that this year will be a prosperous year for Horses and that fortune is on their way. With all of this in mind, you may be thinking of the prancing horse of Ferrari or the other horse from the USA, but this one from Germany takes the cake. We’re are, of course, talking about the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS.
The Porsche Cayman GT4RS is one of the most thrilling cars to drive, with its naturally aspirated 4.0 liter flat-six that makes 500PS and 450Nm of torque, giving you tons of smiles and giggles as you rev the thing to the moon. The giant wing makes the rear planted as it rockets through the corners and the engine sings as it ploughs the straights. While some may presume that the 992 GT3 RS is a better car, the GT4 Cayman just feels more exhilarating to drive, it’s like an MX-5 on steroids. If you’re still not convinced, the folks over at Top Gear chose the GT4 over the GT3 just because of how fun it is to drive.
If you have the disposable income, the lucky colours we recommend are yellow or red, but you can go for green or purple too if you’re feeling adventurous.
Goat - Volvo S60 T8 Recharge
People of the Goat year are usually kindhearted and gentle, they like to be quiet and in their own headspace, but they’re also tough on the inside and have strong inner resilience. Goats this year will have a pretty smooth year according to fengshui masters. With that, we think that the Volvo S60 T8 is the most fitting option this year.
The Volvo S60 T8 Recharge looks unassuming at first glance. It’s a PHEV that’s decently styled and the Swedish badge always meant safety, so why does it have a 2.0 liter twincharged engine that makes 406PS and 640Nm of torque? Not only that, the S60 T8 is also all-wheel drive, meaning that it rockets to 100km/h in 4.6 seconds from a standstill.
The car’s handling is tuned by Volvo’s performance division, Polestar, giving it an enthusiastic driving feel despite its heavy looking body. Don’t forget, this is a luxury vehicle, so not only does it deliver in performance, it also makes you feel comfortable while producing those G-forces. This is the perfect sleeper car for Goats out there as it mirrors their personality of reserved but strong when needed.
The lucky colours this year are green, purple and gold. As these colours aren’t that good-looking on a car, we recommend you try a dark turquoise finish as it’s subtle yet shouty if you notice it.
Monkey- Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk8
When it comes to people of Monkey year, they’re usually mischievous and playful. Monkeys are also generally smart but witty too. Fengshui masters say that Monkeys this year need to pay attention to their spending habits and avoid going over what they earn, which is why we think the Volkswagen Golf GTI is a good pick.
For starters, the Volkswagen Golf GTI has a 2.0 liter turbo inline 4 that puts out 245PS and 340Nm of torque, making for a pretty fast pocket. That coupled with some agile handling, makes for a ride that makes you want to be mischievous on the road, just like a Monkey. We don’t condone any dangerous behavior but this nugget will tickle you into making some questionable driving decisions, but it’s just in-line for a Monkey to do just that right?
This is also a smart buy if you’re looking for a practical but fun to drive ride, it’s also FWD so you don’t need to be worried about losing traction in Malaysian rain. Price-wise, it’s on the expensive side but not bank-breaking.
Lucky colours for the Monkeys this year are the green, yellow and brown, all of which are actually pretty good colours for the Golf so take your pick!
Rooster- Audi RS3
People of the Rooster year are usually hardworking, diligent and ambitious. Despite this though, they love to be the center of attention too. Fengshui masters state that this year will be a pretty good year overall for Roosters, just try not to attract too much attention to avoid jealousy from others. We were torn between the Audi RS3 and BMW M2 for the Roosters, but ultimately settled for the RS3 for the reasons below.
The Audi RS3 has a unique 2.5 liter turbo inline-5 engine, which is rarely found in any modern vehicles at all. The power figures are 401PS and 500Nm of torque, pair this with Audi’s Quattro system and this thing flies! Handling-wise, the RS3 is what you’d expect from a sports car, nimble handling and good road feel.
The styling is slightly more subdued than the M2, yet still sporty enough for most people to turn their heads, especially for the enthusiasts who know what it is. Despite the RS badge, the sports sedan/hatch still rides pretty smoothly, so most of your loved ones just assume you’ve got a normal Audi.
We’d recommend going with a white or at most yellow paint job, as green and purple are extremely cool options but we can’t attract too much attention now can we?
Dog- Honda CR-V Hybrid
People of the year of Dog are often reliable, loyal and also go beyond to make their loved ones feel comfortable. 2025 seems to be stable for the Dog people out there, so there’s not much to fret about. With these aspects in mind, a Dog also needs a similarly loyal and reliable companion too right? We thought so too, but a Toyota Camry seems too obvious of a choice. So why not something different, like the Honda CR-V Hybrid?
The latest Honda CR-V e:HEV is powered by an electric motor that’s making 184PS and 334Nm or torque, with a 2.0 liter inline 4 engine acting as its generator. The power from the motor gets sent through an e-CVT to the front wheels. The car is primarily chosen due to its reliability and comfortability. People of the Dog will be pleased with how reliable the SUV is, along with the assurance that their loved ones feel comfortable in the cabin. It’s also really safe with a 5-Star ANCAP safety rating from its 8 airbags coupled and other safety features.
The lucky colour we’d recommend is a bright red to welcome in the new years, but silver and brown are good choices too if red is too flashy for some.
Pig- BYD Dolphin
Wealthiness, Tolerant and Understanding, these traits usually make the people of the Pig year. However, this year seems to be a challenging one for people born in the Year of the Pig, as fengshui masters say that finance and relationships will go south quickly if not careful, they especially emphasized that Pigs should save up as much as possible too. From this information, we were originally thinking of the Hyundai Ioniq 5, but we ultimately decided on the BYD Dolphin due to the negative horoscope.
The BYD Dolphin is an electric hatchback that’s powered by a 95PS and 180Nm motor, sending power to the front wheels. The little Dolphin offers a range of 410km on a full charge, which is not bad for how much you’re paying for it. Speaking of price, this nugget costs RM100K on the dot, so it won’t break the bank for people of the Pig year looking to get a decent car this year.
If you’re afraid of parts and battery degradation, BYD offers 2 warranties for parts and others for an additional cost. Still not convinced? Just get the Pale Mauve colour and squint your eyes while looking at the front of the car, doesn’t it look just like an adorable Pig? And the mental image of a person born in the Pig year driving in a Dolphin named car is so cute.
Speaking of colour, the best colours to get are purple and white/gold on this car, but if you’d want your car to be just as cute as yourself, Pale Mauve is also a good option.
This list was extremely hard to make as there were many good brands and cars to choose from, so don’t be disappointed if your favorite brand or model isn’t in here. Trust me, we tried really hard to fit at least one BMW and Hyundai in there. Nonetheless, were you satisfied with the car matched with your zodiac sign? If not, which car would you personally choose?
