Proton X50 Sports Edition To Be Unveiled Virtually On Jan 16, 1K Units Only
The Proton X50 Sport Edition, first revealed at KLIMS 2024, is set to officially launch in Malaysia on Thursday, January 16. Proton has announced the virtual unveiling event, which will be streamed live on Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube at 9 PM.
This model will be a limited-edition release, with approximately 1,000 units available. Designed to stand out, the X50 Sport Edition boasts a sportier aesthetic with an aggressive bodykit that includes a red front splitter, side skirts, and rear spats. The car is also painted in a sleek black colour complemented by a gloss black finish on the grille surround and tailgate garnish, replacing the satin chrome seen on other variants. To add a dash of contrast, a striking red shoulder line stripe further accentuates the sportiness of the car.
It also features 18-inch ten-spoke gloss black alloy wheels. Interestingly, these wheels are fitted to a lower-spec variant of the original Geely Binyue, deviating from the top-spec two-tone alloys typically found on the Premium and Flagship X50 variants. A chrome “Sport Edition” badge can be found on the tailgate, reminding buyers of the exclusivity of the vehicle. Inside, the cabin receives premium touches like door sill scuff plates and a Qi wireless charger for quality of life.
The X50 Sport Edition is based on the RM101,800 Premium variant of the Proton X50. It comes equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-three engine delivering 150 PS and 226 Nm of torque with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. However, it’s worth noting that the Sport Edition does not include the advanced driver assistance features available in the Flagship variant, such as autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane centering assist.
Proton has also teased a “special announcement” during the virtual launch event. Could this be a new Proton Saga? We'll just have to wait and see.
Proton fans can tune in to the virtual launch event on Proton’s official Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube channels on January 16 at 9 PM.
