MyBorderPass Makes Immigration Checks Faster For Malaysians Through QR Code
Starting January 2025, Malaysians can enjoy faster immigration clearance at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) with the MyBorderPass QR system. This new system is introduced for better efficiency and decreased congestion at the auto-gates during immigration checks.
Malaysians are no longer required to present their physical passport during immigration checks. Instead, travelers can opt to generate a QR code via the MyBorderPass mobile app, which is then scanned at designated auto-gates. This significantly reduces time spent at the auto-gates compared to performing the whole scanning physical passport process.
To use the system, download the MyBorderPass app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. After installing the app, users are required to register their travel information and complete a facial verification process. Once registration is complete, the app generates a unique QR code that serves as identification at the auto-gates.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stated that the government will be testing the system on a trial basis, and that 40 designated lanes in KLIA are equipped with the necessary technology to process MyBorderPass QR codes. Malaysians simply scan their QR code at the gate, and upon successful facial recognition, they're allowed to proceed.
