2025 Toyota GR Corolla Facelift Launched in Malaysia: Bigger Brother Matures Too, Starting at RM 367K
Among the trio that was launched for Malaysia at Sepang International Circuit yesterday, the Toyota GR Corolla facelift was one of them. The hot hatch has received some minor improvement to performance as well as some changes to the exterior for a more aggressive stance.
Let’s start with power, the G16E-GTS had a 30Nm bump in its torque and no changes to its horsepower number, bringing the total output to be 300PS and 400Nm of torque. If you’ve read the GR Yaris article, you’ll notice that it has the same power output as the facelifted GR Corolla.
Another thing similar to the GR Yaris is that only the 6-speed manual version is currently available, while the 8-speed automatic will be launched at a later date.
Although there isn’t much change in power, Toyota has given the GR Corolla better cooling for more seat time on the track. The cooling package includes an increase in fan and coupling speed from 330W to 500W, as well as a sub-radiator to further cool the engine.
Design-wise, the exterior received some changes on the front with huge inlets on the sides of the grille, directing airflow to the brakes and sub-radiator for better heat management. The bumper was also revised for better aerodynamics and stability during high speeds.
In the handling department, Toyota has further improved on the chassis with grooved washer bolts on the steering column, lower arms, and rear shock absorbers. All of these improve straight-line stability and the hot hatch’s driving characteristics.
The interior hasn’t changed much, with it still having dual-zone climate control, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, a head-up display, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charger, 6 speakers, a front and rear dash cam, and a reverse camera.
The 6-speed manual GR Corolla starts at RM367K OTR without insurance, which for comparison is RM12K more than its predecessor, and RM50K more than the GR Yaris, though the GR Corolla has the benefit of practicality. Now that both cars receive the same power output, here comes the real question, which pocket rocket from Toyota would you choose?
