The Malaysian Road Transport Department (JPJ) has taken another step toward digital transformation by introducing a feature allowing motorists to settle traffic summonses directly through the MyJPJ app.

"Technology like this not only simplifies the process for the public but also boosts JPJ’s efficiency. Digitalisation remains an ongoing journey, and JPJ must continue to evolve with technological advancements and the public’s needs," said Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook during the launch of JPJ’s new office at Galeria PJH.

This new addition builds upon the app’s existing functionalities, which already include the renewal of Malaysian Driving Licences and Motor Vehicle Licences. To date, the app has over 11.5 million users, generating a revenue of RM291.03 million through its services.

In a bid to encourage compliance and reduce the backlog of unpaid summonses, the government has announced a special flat rate payment offer. Starting from January 3, 2025, vehicle owners will have six months to settle up to three specific traffic summonses at a discounted rate of RM150 per summons. This initiative will remain in effect until June 30, 2025.

The offer applies to violations such as exceeding the speed limit, disregarding traffic light rules, and offences under notices 114 and 115, which pertain to questioning offenders and providing statements as evidence, respectively. Normally, these offences attract fines of RM300.

Payments under this scheme can be made via JPJ counters, kiosks, mobile counters, or the MyJPJ app. Notably, payments through other channels like MyEG or Pos Malaysia are excluded from this initiative.

Currently, there are approximately two million outstanding summonses under the Automated Awareness Safety System (AWAS).

Loke expressed optimism about the future of the MyJPJ app and similar initiatives. "The success of the app reflects the public’s readiness to adopt digital solutions. We will continue to innovate and expand the app’s capabilities to better serve the people of Malaysia," he said.
