Rapid KL Reaches Record Breaking 1.5 Million Passengers During New Year's Eve
On New Year’s Eve, RapidKL achieved a record breaking 1.5 million passengers in a single day—1.27 million on rail and 207,266 on buses. This figure represents a 30% increase from the daily average in 2024.
“RapidKL is very proud to have been able to meet the needs of users on that night and thus boost city residents’ confidence to choose public transport as their preferred mode of transport in 2025,” said Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah, Prasarana’s CEO. He commended the nearly 3,000 front-liners who ensured smooth operations until 3 a.m. on January 1. "The success of this large-scale operation proves that RapidKL staff have high skills and competence as well as extensive experience in providing the best service to the people.".
Popular celebration hotspots like KLCC, TRX, and Bukit Bintang saw a controlled flow of crowds in the bus stops and train stations nearby, which allowed people to enjoy a stress-free countdown celebration.
Building on this success, RapidKL has ambitious plans for 2025. Initiatives include introducing new electric buses and Demand Responsive Transit (DRT) vans. Additionally, the opening of the Shah Alam Line is expected to enhance access for thousands of commuters in the western Klang Valley.
