Op Lancar Runs Until January 2nd to Reduce Traffic On Major Routes
The Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) has officially launched "Op Lancar" to reduce the amount of traffic during the holiday season. The initiative will run until January 2, 2025, targeting major routes nationwide to alleviate congestion and ensure road user safety.
Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, JSPT director, “We are aware of the increased traffic volume on major highways such as the North-South Expressway (PLUS) and the East Coast Expressway (LPT), as well as on federal and state roads. Op Lancar will focus on dispersing traffic efficiently while ensuring public safety,” said JSPT director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri in an official statement.
To manage the expected influx of traffic, JSPT has deployed 2,752 personnel across key locations. This mobilization comes alongside an estimation from highway operator PLUS Malaysia that 2.12 million vehicles will traverse major expressways daily during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri also urged motorists to comply with traffic regulations, including adhering to speed limits, avoiding driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and observing traffic signals. “We call on members of the public to plan their journeys carefully, monitor weather conditions, and stay informed about traffic updates before setting out,” he added. He further emphasized the importance of vehicle maintenance, urging drivers to ensure their cars are in safe working condition.
The operation also encourages employers and commercial vehicle operators to use federal and state roads when possible, easing congestion on the main highways. Authorities have reminded the public to be patient and considerate, particularly in high-traffic areas, to ensure smoother travel experiences for all.
