Jaecoo Omoda C9 launched in Malaysia: 261PS, AWD SUV starting at RM 168k.

Chery Malaysia has officially launched the Omoda C9, a premium D-segment SUV designed to compete in the local market. Assembled locally in Shah Alam, the SUV is available in two variants: the front-wheel-drive (2WD) model priced at RM168,800 and the all-wheel-drive (AWD) version at RM188,800 (OTR, without insurance). Deliveries for the AWD variant will begin in January 2025, while the 2WD model is expected to reach customers by mid-2025.

Although it has the 'Omoda' name, the C9 is exclusively sold at Jaecoo dealers all around Malaysia, which may be confusing for some Chery fans. The Omoda C9, which is built on Chery’s T2X platform, measures 4,775 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,671 mm in height, complemented by a 2,800 mm wheelbase. This makes it slightly larger than it's rivals like the Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5. Its boot provides 660L of storage, expandable to 1,783L with the rear seats folded, which is great for those who enjoy the outdoor life or the family weekends.

Under the hood, the Omoda C9 boasts a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four producing 261 PS and 400 Nm of torque that's paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The AWD variant includes seven driving modes, allowing you to traverse all types of terrains, while the 2WD model offers three modes for urban driving. Its claimed fuel efficiency stands at 8.6 litres per 100 km, making it quite fuel efficient for it's class.

Inside, the Omoda C9's cabin features a 24.6-inch HD infotainment system, while the Sony 14-speaker sound system provides immersive audio (2WD only gets 8 speakers). A 50W wireless charger, a fragrance system with three scent options, and a 3-zone air-conditioning system with air quality management for those who're sensitive to dust and smoke. The SUV also includes soft-touch leather finishes, ventilated and memory-enabled driver seats, and paddle shifters. There's a panoramic sunroof as well as a built-in digital video recorder (DVR).

With a 5 star rating on ANCAP and Euro NCAP, safety is a priority in the Omoda C9, with its body made of 85% high-strength steel and equipped with eight airbags. It also gets the level 2.5 semi-autonomous driving treatment which features technologies like Blind Spot Detection, Lane Keep Assist, Driver Monitoring System, Door Opening Warning , Lane Departure Warning, Lane Departure Prevention, Lane Change Assist and a 540-degree around-view monitor.

The Omoda C9 is available in three colours—Matte Grey, Khaki White, and Carbon Crystal Black. The SUV comes with a 7 year/150,000 km warranty but an early bird package allows up to 10 year/1,000,000km warranty for the engine and suspension.
