Toyota Malaysia has finally launched the 2024 Toyota Camry for the Malaysian market at KLIMS 2024, almost a year after its global reveal. As with Thailand and Singapore, the ninth generation of the Camry will only be offered in a 2.5 liter inline-four hybrid, which is priced at RM 248,800 OTR. The new Camry is also imported CBU from their regional production facility in Thailand.

Under the hood is the 2.5 liter engine with Toyota’s 5th generation hybrid system, putting out 190PS and 221nm of torque on its own. This is combined with an electric motor and an e-CVT gearbox to make a total of 230PS that’s sent to the front wheels (No AWD sadly).

Toyota has given the new Camry a significant redesign, particularly in the front with their new signature ‘hammerhead’ design, which we’ve already seen on the Prius and Crown Sport. The LED headlights and tailights are sharp angled that give off an aggressive presence. It also gets front and rear fog lights and LED daytime running lights.

From the side, the new Camry has a lower roofline compared to last generation which makes it sleek but sporty, almost coupe-like if I must say. The dimensions mostly remain the same, the only difference being that it’s now 30mm longer (4915mm) than it was before (4885mm). The 2024 Camry also gets 18-inch alloy wheels that get wrapped in Bridgestone Turanza tyres (235/45R).

The interior includes a new two-section panoramic sunroof,  leather upholstery and steering wheel, 9 JBL Premium Speakers with a subwoofer, ventilated seats with built-in fans, electronic parking brake, a heads up display, a dashcam and Tri-zone climate control. Toyota also added a new 12.3 inch infotainment that supports wireless Apple CarPlay, but Android Auto remains wired only. Oh, and there’s paddle shifters for those who’re reserved but still want a spirited weekend drive.

Additionally, there’s a 15W wireless charger, 3 type-C USB ports and a traditional 12V socket below the climate controls. The rear passengers also get some love with a climate control system in the foldable armrest and 2 more type-C chargers.

The new Camry gets the usual driving modes from Sport, Eco and Normal. However, this time it gets a new EV mode which allows it to drive similarly to an EV, though Toyota didn’t clarify how many kilometers it can travel solely on that mode.

In terms of safety, the Camry gets the Toyota Safety Sense system treatment, including features like autonomous emergency braking with parking support, adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert, lane tracing assist and traffic sign recognition. There’s also a blind spot monitor along with a 360-degree surround view monitor and 8 airbags.

There are six different colour options available. Cement Gray, Platinum White Pearl and Attitude Black are standard, while Dark Blue Mica, Precious Metal and Emotional Red cost RM800 more.

The 2025 Toyota Camry comes with a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty along with another 8 year unlimited mileage warranty on the hybrid battery, inverter and ECU unit. Owners can also extend the Hybrid battery warranty for 10 years for an additional RM 3.5k.
