GWM Tank 500 unveiled at KLIMS 2024: Ever Heard of a Luxury Tank?
Alongside the Wey 80, GWM has also unveiled their new luxury SUV at KLIMS 2024, the new Tank 500 is built upon the previous 300 with some revisions and improvements. This luxury off-roader is going to tackle the likes of the Ford Everest and Toyota Fortuner.
This massive SUV measures around 5078 mm in length, 1934 mm in width, and 1905 mm in height, with a 2850 mm wheelbase, which means they’ve increased the Tank’s width and height by 4 mm and 2mm respectively. The wheelbase has also grown, being 100 mm more than the 300’s.
The exterior of the Tank 500 looks like a full on American pick-up truck now, with its burly front end resembling the trucks coming out of Chevrolet and Ford, especially the Silverado and F-150. The rear however still retains its SUV styling with vertical taillights, a tailgate and an optional tailgate-mounted spare tyre holder.
The inside of the Tank 500 looks just as good as the exterior, with a pretty wooden-looking finish across the dashboard and center console, a 14.6 inch infotainment system, nappa leather seats and door panels as well as a Lexus-style interior clock integrated with the dashboard. It also includes features like a huge panoramic sunroof, 12 premium Infinity speakers, 2-row climate control and a 3rd row seat control panel, quite the luxurious cabin.
Just like what Thailand has, The 500 is powered by a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder alongside an electric motor, paired with a 9-speed automatic to have a total output of 350PS and 648Nm of torque, sending this behemoth from 0-100 kmph in 8.3 seconds.
It also comes with a ton of off-roading goodies with it boasting a whopping 11 drive modes, which includes 4 normal modes and 7 off-road modes. It also comes with an electric 4WD front and rear differential lock system, a ‘tank turn’ mode for some sick dirt drifts, off-road cruise control, and water wading depth detection.
The Tank 500 is also built just like one with it earning a 5-star ANCAP safety rating. It comes equipped with multiple airbags, including a center airbag for added protection in side impacts, and a comprehensive autonomous emergency braking system.has adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane-keeping assist, and something called a Wisdom Dodge system, which despite it sounding like an anime character’s signature move, drives the 500 closer to the edge of the lane to make way for motorcycles or large vehicles. The vehicle also features a tire pressure monitoring system and a 360-degree surround-view camera for added convenience and security.
The sole Malaysian variant starts its retail price at RM 250K, but buyers are gonna have to fork out more for it once it reaches dealers.
