Mazda CX-60 to debut at KLIMS 2024: What We Can Expect
The Mazda CX-60 will make its debut at the 2024 Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS), marking the first appearance of this premium Japanese SUV in Malaysia. As a direct competitor to established models such as the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, and Volvo XC60, the CX-60 is designed to appeal to buyers seeking a blend of luxury and good performance.
What to Expect from the Mazda CX-60 in Malaysia
The Mazda CX-60 is built on the Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture and features a front-engine, rear-wheel drive (RWD) platform. With an impressive length of 4,740 mm and a width of 1,890 mm, the CX-60 offers both stylish aesthetics and practical interior space. Its 2,870 mm wheelbase ensures a spacious cabin, offering plenty of comfort for five passengers. The design is inspired by Mazda's iconic Kodo design language, showcasing sleek lines and a bold front grille complemented by sharp LED headlights, exuding a premium presence.
Powertrain Options and Performance
Although Bermaz Motor, the official distributor, has yet to confirm the powertrains for Malaysia, several options have been revealed in nearby markets, hinting at what might be offered locally.
Philippines: The CX-60 is available with a choice of 3.3L turbocharged inline-six petrol and 3.3L turbocharged diesel engines, both featuring a 48V mild hybrid system. These powertrains are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and AWD, delivering 284 PS (280 hp) or 254 PS (251 hp), depending on the engine choice.
Singapore: The Singaporean version comes with a 2.5L Skyactiv-G naturally aspirated inline-four engine, producing 191 PS (189 hp), coupled with a RWD setup and 8-speed automatic transmission.
Indonesia: The Indonesian market sees both a 3.3L turbocharged petrol engine (similar to the Philippines model) and a more efficient 2.5L petrol option.
Notably, Mazda CX-60 in Europe also features a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) option, which pairs a 2.5L petrol engine with an electric motor to deliver a combined 323 PS (241 kW) and 500 Nm of torque. This version offers a 60 km electric-only range on a 17.8 kWh lithium-ion battery, making it a great choice for those who want to be eco-friendly.
Premium Features and Interior
Inside, the Mazda CX-60 boasts a premium interior, with materials like Nappa leather, real wood trims, and metal accents, elevating the cabin’s luxury feel. The 12.3-inch touchscreen and 12-speaker BOSE sound system cater to tech-savvy and music-loving buyers alike. The SUV’s safety features include the i-Activsense system, which encompasses lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and a 360-degree camera system.
Pricing Expectations
Pricing for the Mazda CX-60 in Malaysia is expected to start at around RM 220,000, with the top-tier PHEV model possibly exceeding RM 250,000. This places it in direct competition with high-end SUVs such as the BMW X3 and Volvo XC60, offering an enticing option for buyers in the luxury SUV market.
Stay tuned for more details during the KLIMS 2024, where Mazda is expected to reveal further specifics about the Malaysian-spec CX-60, including the official pricing and full range of powertrains.
