Malaysia is set to rev into the future of highway rest stops with a groundbreaking partnership between PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) and PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad. The collaboration aims to develop the country's first-ever commercial hybrid super stations along national highways, with the Klang Valley taking the lead as the pilot location.

What are Hybrid Super Stations?

These innovative stations will be a one-stop shop for all your highway needs, offering a comprehensive range of services:

  • Large-scale petrol and diesel stations: Catering to traditional vehicles.
  • Fast-charging stations:  A boon for electric vehicle (EV) drivers, enabling quick and convenient charging during their journeys.
  • Improved public amenities:  Enhanced facilities for a more comfortable rest stop experience.

Sustainability at the Forefront

The hybrid super stations are designed with a strong focus on sustainability, incorporating features like:

  • Energy-efficient building designs: Minimizing the environmental impact.
  • Green spaces: Creating a more pleasant and eco-friendly atmosphere.
  • Renewable energy sources:  Powering the stations for a greener future.

Transforming the Highway Experience

PLUS managing director Nik Airina Nik Jaffar highlights the project's alignment with Malaysia's Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint (LCMB) 2021-2030.  These hybrid stations go beyond just fueling vehicles; they aim to transform the highway experience for all users by:

  • Enhancing mobility services: Providing a wider range of options for travelers.
  • Promoting sustainable practices: Encouraging eco-conscious choices on the road.
  • Creating new highway landmarks:  Stations designed to be visually appealing and inviting.

The Klang Valley Takes the Lead

As the pilot location, the Klang Valley can expect the first hybrid super station to offer a glimpse into the future of Malaysian highways. With Petronas Dagangan on board, the station promises to be a vast space exceeding 30,000 square feet, providing a comprehensive mobility hub for all motorists.

This partnership between PLUS and Petronas Dagangan marks a significant step towards a more sustainable and convenient future for Malaysian highways. The Klang Valley's pilot hybrid super station is eagerly awaited, and its success paves the way for a network of these innovative stations across the country.
